Alan Prater

Meet Alan Prater, a highly experienced and skilled yacht broker and maritime training professional. Growing up in Arkansas, Alan developed a love for being on the water at a young age. He spent his childhood kneeboarding, wakeboarding, and playing sports on the lakes, before joining the United States Navy at 18.

During his 22 years in the Navy, Alan had the opportunity to drive and be assigned to various sized vessels of both power and sail, discovering his true passion for being in the elements and on the water. After retiring from the Navy, Alan made a career out of his love for the ocean and started his own maritime training company, Maritime Support and Services LLC. He spent most of his time creating and conducting maritime training courses for the government, commercial, and private sectors, ensuring the next generation of mariners understand what it takes to be on the water safely.

Alan is a Master of 200T vessels Upon Oceans for the USCG, a USCG instructor of deck courses, International Yacht Training (IYT) Master of Yachts 200T Unlimited and an IYT Instructor/ examiner. He travels across the United States to conduct most of his training and loves sailing up and down the East Coast of the United States and the southern California shores. Alan currently resides in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia where he enjoys spending time with his three sons, surfing, and playing pickleball. He is also a member of the Little Creek Sailing Association and loves racing in the summer months.
