Solar Package

Solar

  • 3200 Watts at max zenith.  This is about 250A full charge capability
  • Panels are wired in series for an output voltage of 100v max
  • Each solar pair goes to a Victron Solar MPPT charge controller
  • Typical output float voltage of ~13.5v
  • Each MPPT controller has an 80A circuit breaker
  • The 4 MPPT’s are wired to an ANL 300A fuse connected to the batteries

Batteries

  • 10 300 hr (3000Ahrs) 12-14v Relion LiFePObatteries, wired in parallel
  • Each battery is protected with a 150A fuse located on the positive terminal of the battery
  • Each battery has internal overcurrent, overvoltage, and under voltage protection
  • The battery bank supplies the positive bus bars
  • The vessel 12v supply is connected to the positive bus bar via the existing fuse

Quatro Inverter/Charger:

  • 5000W Victron 230v 50Hz
  • Automatic switchover from AC input to Inverter mode
  • Automatic charge mode when AC input available
  • Charge capability up to 180 Amps
  •  Works with shore power or generator
  • Provides power to the air conditioners and water maker
  • normal float voltage of ~13.5v, once every 7 days it will take the batteries up to 14.2v for 1 hour.
  • Connected to the batteries via  an On/Off switch and a 750A ANL fuse

DCDC Converters:

  • A DCDC converter on both starter batteries
  • Provides up to 50A each charging the LiFePO4 when the engines are running, or plugged into shore power, or running on the generator
  • Setup to deliver a fixed 13.5v to the batteries

Battery Voltage monitor:

  • Victron BMV-712 500A current and voltage monitor

Operation:

All systems are designed to be fully automatic.   When plugged in or running on the generator, AC power is passed through Quattro 5000 to the Air conditioners and watermaker.  Charging also occurs if needed.   All the charge sources, solar, DCDC’s, and the Quatro are programmed for LiFePO4 batteries.

Expected Power consumption:

While using the batteries with no charge source ( night and no generator, engines running, or plugged in) we measured 250A or 3200watts with all the Air Conditioners on.   With a battery bank of 3000 hrs, expect between 12 and 24 hours, depending on state of charge at the start, outdoor temperatures, thermostat settings, and how many AC’s are on.

During the day with full, solar will augment the power consumption and longer operation can be expected.  Even if cloudy, there will still be some power supplied.

Charging Capability:

  • 250A peak for solar
  • 180A from the Quatro 5000
  • 80A from the Quatro 3000
  • 100A from the DCDC

Total charging current is 610A.   This would only occur at high noon and the batteries are at 12v.  Typical operation would be to see 250A charge current.

When to start the generator or plug in:

The system will shut off the inverter when the battery is below 11.5v.  The batteries will shut off around 10v to prevent internal damage.  It is advised is to start the generator at or below 12v. 12v is approximately 20% power remaining, requiring an 80% refill. If at night expect to run the generator for 3000Ahr / (180+80+100) * 0.8 = 6 hours to get to full charge.

When running the vessel offshore at night, DCDC’s will provide up to 100A of charging from the engine alternators.   This is not enough to cover the load of all air conditioners, but will supplement the power, extending the air conditioners operational run time.

Relion Battery internal protection:

The Relion batteries are designed to protect themselves from abuse.  There is an internal protection circuit that will disconnect the battery if under voltage, over voltage or over current.  If this occurs, identify the cause (most likely the voltage was too low).   Disconnect the negative of the battery, verify there is a charge source, measures >13v, and reconnect the battery.  The internal switch will turn back on.

Was a pleasure working with Andrew Hodgdon as buyers agent for our recent multihull purchase. Very knowledgeable of this space and for sure my first call buying or selling a yacht.

— Russell Wesdyk

The multihull company has been great to work with. They were very helpful in every stage of our purchase from instill showings to purchase. Karl Reed, Andrew Hodgon and Andrew Holland were great sources of information and helped us find our dream Catamaran. Thank you Multihull!

— Ryan Thompson

Sold my L42 here with the excellent help and support of TMCs Croatia sales manager “Zee”. Despite my boat docked on the dry in Montenegro, in winter and in a challenging market, TMC and Zee managed to get her sold, managing the entire process from taking pictures and video’s, putting her out there on the web, prepping her and managing all for inspections….down to the final hand-over documents and managing the escrow payments when all boxes were ticked! Very professional, very helpful (Zee went above and beyond to make sure he delivers excellent service), responsive and successful. Thanks TMC!

— Era Sailing

Excellent experience dealing with TMC! Anyone buying a boat I would recommend going thru them. Chuck was super friendly and helpful, he went above and beyond helping us thru the process.

— Blue Compass Private Charters

We purchased our lagoon 410 through the multihull company, Andrew Hodgdon was the listing’s broker. From the start till the end of the process he was upfront honest and accommodating. Our situation was unique and required a bit more leg work. Andrew was always easy to get a hold of and willing to help. It was a pleasure working with a highly knowledgeable broker that values integrity. I highly recommend him.
