About This Boat

2007 Lagoon 420 Owner's Version

(This is a 2007 but many of the features are 2008.)

Comfortable, roomy and easy to sail!

The Lagoon 420's are the biggest 42 foot catamaran you will find. Never a conversion, always original diesel engines. As soon as you step aboard Catatonic you get a sense of spaciousness. The hard bimini towers above your head to allow for plenty of breeze yet just enough protection from the elements. Full cockpit encloses are included for additional coverage. The cockpit is slightly below deck level to allow for movement around the perimeter of the boat without having to step on or over people. The helm sits high and has almost 360 degrees of viability which enables you to see each corner - a crucial feature severely lacking in many catamarans.

The doors to the saloon open wide to let in all the outdoor living you desire. The galley looks out into the cockpit so the cook never has to feel left out and snacks can be served easily. The "L" shaped galley has plenty of counter space with huge double sinks. So many cats have the sink front and center taking up the view from the saloon. The high back, comfy "L" shaped settee faces the view to the stern. The large table can convert to a bed and is accompanied by a large bench seat which opens for storage or room for two or three more at the table. The nav station looks out over the bow and the panoramic windows allow for safe, dry night watches.

The owners cabin is to port with a sliding privacy door. The queen island-style bed has room to exit both sides and with a drawer storage for underneath. The walk-through also has ample storage, a love seat and desk. This is a REAL bathroom with separate shower and plenty of head room! The starboard cabins both have "island-style" beds with access to both sides. The aft cabin bed is situated fore & aft and head has a separate shower. The forward cabin bed is situated sideways with the shower stall completely separate from the head. A great feature for couples sharing a cabin.

Outside, the stern platforms are wide with safe access to the dingy. You also have easy access to the engine compartments from here (vs. under the beds some other catamarans.) There is plenty of space to walk around the boat with hand holds strategically placed where needed. The hard bimini will allow you to easily tuck in the sail after anchoring and looking yachtie for the evening sundowner!

A great boat for family living and comfortable sailing!

Owner's Notes

Engine and sail-drive fluid changes, usually sooner than recommended. The engines are fitted with valves to the oil pans to drain directly into a small hose and then to collection jugs for recycling.

We have had large boats since 1989 and are moving on to different hobbies.

My goal was to minimize the necessity to bring Catatonic to a dock. With the addition of almost 1000 watts of solar, the wind generator, and almost 1000 amps of gel cell batteries we accomplished the goal. With a normal Caribbean wind and sun day we can run 2 refrigerators, the freezer, the water maker, lights and fans with no problem. We have run the diesel generator less than a dozen times in 6 years on the rare windless and sunless day. We are frugal and smart with our electrical and power use, but we do like our ice and cold drinks!

Manufacturer Comment

Innovative, modern, easy to maneuver, cleverly designed, safe, fast, spacious, a boat for all the family to cruise in! This Lagoon 420 was never a hybrid and is equipped with 39 HP Yanmar engines.

A longitudinal beam that includes a small bowsprit and the mooring gear, a rigid bimini, a gullwing shaped bridgedeck and an overlapping genoa. The deck is uncluttered so moving around is easy: wide sidedecks, flush deck hatches, plenty of lockers. The aft passerelle allows passage from one transom to the other without going back up in the cockpit. There are many ways to enjoy life on board the Lagoon 420: the cockpit with its large bench seats and a table is protected from the sun and the bad weather by a rigid bimini top with sides and back panels, the twin seat helm station was designed for sailing with a reduced crew. All the control lines can be handled by one person from the helm station, freeing the other living spaces for the guests. The foredeck is exclusively dedicated to relaxation.

Manufactures Cabin Description

Priority has been accorded to comfort when designing the interior of the Lagoon 420. The light oak Alpi woodwork and the laminated wenge floor give a modern and relaxing feel. Access into the saloon from the cockpit through a sliding glass door on the same level. The longitudinal galley opens directly on the cockpit, it is the most convivial and practical area, fully equipped with numerous lockers. The port hull of the 3 cabin owners version is in fact a suite: large bed, sofa, numerous lockers and hanging lockers, washroom with separate shower.
