Introduction

Dear Catamaran Sailor,

The Multihull Company extends Season’s Greetings and best wishes for safe sailing and fair winds in 2008. It seems hard to believe, but the Miami Boat Show is just around the corner, slated to open February 14th, and to run until February 15th. For those of you considering either a new Dolphin or Catana catamaran, be sure to come by our display on the Multihull Lagoon. Test sails on these fine catamarans will be offered on February 16th.

Congratulations to Chantier Catana for continuing their tradition of innovative design and expertise with the new Catana 50, chosen as the 2008 “Catamaran of the Year” by Cruising World Magazine. If you did not have the opportunity to view this stunning catamaran in Annapolis, please make every effort to see her in Miami.

The Multihull Company continued to grow in 2007. We opened our new Multihulls Northwest office on Bainbridge Island, off the shores of Seattle, WA and welcomed Matthew Dunning to our staff. Matthew, a Dartmouth graduate, has fifteen years experience cruising on multihulls. He also has practical knowledge of multihull designs and seamanship, and extensive knowledge of the Northwest’s maritime geography.

More recently, Delphine Lafitte joined our brokerage staff from the shores of the Mediterranean, where she opened our new office in Port Pin Rolland, France. A licensed Captain, Delphine has been sailing all her life. She has crossed the Atlantic twice and spent ten years in the Caribbean before returning home to France. She brings practical knowledge of many catamaran brands and speaks English, French, and Spanish.

Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

Phillip Berman, President, The Multihull Company

Delphine Lafitte Joins The Multihull Company

Like so many young French children who grew up near the sea, Delphine Lafitte began sailing at a very young age on small dinghies. Her affinity for the water and wind was so strong that she became a sailing instructor in her early teens. This laid the foundation for her future life at sea.

She became a mate on a large sailboat in her late teens and crossed the Atlantic twice. Those passages “under the stars” were enough to convince her that she must pursue a career in yachting. She went on to obtain the very prestigious French Yacht Captains license and has, for the past ten years, served as a yacht captain – operating charters, delivering yachts all over the globe, and racing in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Atlantic and South Pacific. She has experience on just about every type of yacht – large monohulls, racing monohulls, charter catamarans, racing catamarans, etc. She has served on yachts ranging in size from 28 to 145 feet.

An accomplished linguist, Delphine speaks fluent French, English, and Spanish. She operates The Multihull Company’s brokerage office in Port Pin Rolland in the South of France. Delphine not only lists catamarans for sale in Europe for the Multihull Company, but works closely with Alexis de Boucaud, our Florida Office manager, to serve the needs of European buyers looking to purchase a catamaran in the United States or the Caribbean.

Delphine is a warm, intelligent woman who loves to help others make their sailing dreams come true. She speaks not only with a great depth of sailing experience, but with a true passion for the sea.

Strictly Sail Miami Boat Show Opens - February 14 - 18, 2008

Miami

The Miami Boat Show at Miamarina at Bayside opens on Thursday, February 14th and runs through Monday, February 18th. Our red and white tent can be found on Pier C, Space 25. We will have two catamarans dockside: Jadimean, the Catana 50 Catamaran of the Year will be available for boarding, as well as Lorilie, a 2007 Dolphin Catamaran. The Dean 441 at Annapolis sold, but we will have an informative display and slide show of this fine cruiser. All of our brokers will be available, so bring your questions and catamaran wish lists to our tent. We’ll answer your questions and find the catamaran that best suits your needs. This is also a great time to list your catamaran for sale. With the sailing season just around the corner, many shoppers stop to ask what is presently for sale and what we expect to have for sale in the near future.

A display of the brokerage boats currently available and their specifications will be located in our tent. I would like to encourage those of you who are considering the purchase of a new or used catamaran to speak with one of our experienced brokers. If you need expert advice or assistance of any kind we have a great team to help. Alexis de Boucaud or Darrel McDaniel, who operate our Florida office, Matthew Dunning from the new Multihulls Northwest office on Bainbridge Island, and Tom Kintz, who manages our Mystic, CT office. For those of you in the Mid-Atlantic, please contact our corporate offices in Philadelphia and I will be happy to personally advise or assist you. Our brokers can answer any questions you may have about any catamaran. As always, used cats listed in the Miami area are available for showings.

The boat show has something for every sailor, regardless of experience. The sailing seminars offered throughout the show are listed in the show program. Phil will give a talk, “How to Buy a Catamaran that Best Suits Your Needs,” and Matthew Dunning will speak on, “The History of Catamarans on the Pacific”. At Miami you have a wonderful opportunity to learn while being entertained by the many catamarans available. We hope to see you there!

Cruising World Writers, Tom and Harriet Linskey, begin life on Hands Across the Sea, Their New Dolphin 460

Hands Across the Sea

Last year, veteran cruising sailor and Senior Writer for Cruising World magazine, Tom Linskey, wrote an article about test-sailing a Dolphin catamaran in St. Vincent. Tom and his wife, Harriet, decided it was time to finally retire and live at sea full time. Well, Tom and Harriet’s test sail went well and they had a new Dolphin catamaran built. They are now living full time on her and Tom continues to write for Cruising World from his boat.

The Hands Across the Sea network lends a hand to local communities around the world in need of basic educational supplies, health care, and professional help. Tom and Harriet Linskey deliver much needed supplies to isolated areas around the world whether it is by delivering needed goods, hosting volunteers, coordinating aid organizations, or just networking with other sailors willing to lend a helping hand to communities in need. Keep Multihull Racing in the 1012 Olympics

Olympics

Olympics

At the recommendation of the RYA, on November 9, 2007, the ISAF Council voted to remove the catamaran as an Olympic boat for 2012 even though the Events Committee recommended that the cats stay. The sailing community was not consulted and has now initiated a petition to reinstate the use of catamarans.

Multihull sailors, worldwide, recognize catamaran sailing as a worldwide, dynamic sport that defines the ultimate challenge of high performance sailing. Please support this exciting recreational and competitive discipline by signing the online petition to reinstate multihull racing in the 1012 Olympics.

One of the fastest and most beautiful catamarans in the world. After a major refit at the Multiplast boatyard in 2007, she is like new and ready to sail at a fraction of the price than a new catamaran of her size and quality.

The seller of Cora May has lowered his price nearly $100,000 in the past four months. He is simply motivated to sell this boat and is willing to listen to offers. I have inspected Cora May and I will stake my hard-earned reputation here to tell you she is super, super clean and truly loaded. She cannot be compared to a stripped out Lagoon 440, and for anyone who has priced one of these boats new understands, Cora May has extremely costly upgrades.

2005 44' Lagoon

1991 60' Custom Thompson

This unique and extremely fun boat is among the few fast sailboats that’s both easy to sail and comfortable. “Larus Roc” is arguably one of the fastest sailboats in the USA. Think of her as an endless water park ride, sailing comfortably and in control at 25 knots. She’s also a light air machine, generating boat speed of 2.6 times true wind speed in 5 knots of beam breeze. “Larus Roc” has shown herself to be a formidable racing machine, but she’s also quite comfortable for cruising with her 4 bunks, galley and head.

Seven at Sea is a boat I know very, very well. She was my own boat for two years. She was the first Ian Farrier F-41 launched. We had added on a targa bar, inboard diesels, and solar off the bimini, so she sat a bit low on the sterns. As such, we added on about two feet to her sterns, which not only makes her float right, but added nicely to her performance and comfort at sea.

2001 47' Catana
$685,000

White Magic is a coveted owner version Catana 471, with less than 800 hours on her upgraded 60 horse power engines. In other words, she has been lightly used and is therefore in excellent condition and ready to sail virtually anywhere in the world. Like most Catana's she has been outfitted for the serious voyager - Raymarine color chartplotter, ICOM single side band radio, Spectra watermaker, four large solar panels, liferaft, etc. During the past year she got a new trampoline, a new bottom job, a new RIB dinghy and outboard, a new bowsprit and screecher, and a variety of other things.

Two years ago the owner of this yacht came to us to create the ultimate high peformance cruising Dolphin 460. A year or so later, Lorilie was launched, and I have sailed her in Grenada and boy is she fast and gorgeous. Lorilie has a custom, fully rotating carbon wing foil mast, bowsprit, Spectra sails, spinnaker, screecher, etc., and then on top of that divinicell floors, bulkheads, etc, to keep her as light as she can be. On top of that, just look at her inventory - is there anything she doesn't have for the serious world voyager?

2007 46' Dolphin
$789,000

Boat Image

2001 41' Lagoon
€250,000

Boat Image
This popular Lagoon 410 is a coveted, never chartered, owner version, with SSB, gennaker, upgraded refrigeration, radar, etc. She is sailing in the Southern Caribbean for the Winter and can be shown easily with some advance notice. Please see the full specs details and give us a call if you have any additional questions about this very clean used Lagoon 410.

Exceptional! This Lagoon 410 S2 Owner's version was specified and equipped by an experienced yachtsman to be a true bluewater sailor. No cost was sparred, no upgrade was omitted to get her to the next level. There are a lot of Lagoon 410s on the market today including numerous former charter boats, there are fewer owner's versions, but there is only one L410 S2 OWNER'S VERSION that has the stuff of a private yacht. Her discerning owners care for her meticulously -she is in mint condition.

2004 41' Lagoon

West Coast buyers take note she is located in Olympia, WA. Like her literary namesake, Anais is sophisticated, spirited, sociable, and sleek. Her interior is warm and bright. Her layout is accommodating. And she takes to the wind with a certain vivacity.

1994 42' Lagoon
$229,500

Boat Image

2002 47' Catana
$639,000

Boat Image
We have just listed this lovely Catana 471 and she is ready to go anywhere in the world. Tortuga had a near total refit by her meticulous owner over the past year. Please see our full spec listing. As everyone knows, the Catana 471 is a highly sought after voyaging catamaran for the serious sailor - dual daggerboards, composite hulls and decks, composite furniture, carbon rig....these boats really sail and they have very high bridge deck clearance so they do not punish you on long passages with banging, slapping, and pounding!

"Equity" is available for viewing in Miami and unquestionably the finest example of a Marquises 56 ever built. She was purchased with over $400,000 in owner upgrades and has always been maintained and operated by a professional crew.. What is most unique about this yacht is that her owner who is an international technology consultant and experienced yachtsman who designed the layout and systems specifically for crewed 8 person charters and ocean cruising. All major systems were installed using only US 60hz equipment to USCG standards.

1999 56' Foutaine Pajot
$695,000

Boat Image

2002 58' Catana
$1,350,000

Boat Image
We sold this fine Catana for her original owners to her current owner, who loves her dearly, but finds his business has been all consuming of late as such he cannot use her as much as planned. He spent considerable sums on her to make her the most luxurious, luxury crewed Catana 58 on the market - all new electronics in 06, solar, art, fabrics, luxury cutlery, towels, RIB, every water toy you can imagine. She had a total refit less than 16 months ago which ran well over $150,000. Indeed, she is a turn-key Catana 58 for either charter work or personal voyaging.

"Celise D" is a very attractive and well proven performance cruising catamaran. She was designed by the respected Australian designer, Tony Grainger, and finely built in the Pacific Northwest by Little Hoquiam Boat Yard/Howard Moe Enterprises.

1999 46' Custom Grainger

1982 27' Force Engineering
$22,500

"Like Holding Smoke Under Water" is a factory customized Stiletto 27' SE with in-hull retractable centerboards (good system). She sails fast, responds to even the slightest puff, and makes an excellent racer or microcruiser. She has in hull berths for 2 as well as a cockpit tent that encloses the bridgedeck and hulls. She has been extensively upgraded with custom console and winches, taller rotating mast, electronics, all Harken gear, and Technora running rigging.
