Winter 2007
IntroductionI am currently flying home from the Paris Boat Show which took place this past December. Alexis de Boucaud, our Florida office manager, was there to introduce the Dolphin 460 to Europe as he will be showing a new Dolphin 460 with our new Italian agent at the Cannes Boat Show next September. I was at the show to catch up on the latest in European yachting and to inspect the exciting new Catana 50 that we will proudly show next October at the Annapolis Boat Show. It has been another year of growth and exciting change here at The Multihull Company. Starting January 1st, 2007, Tom Kintz will join us to operate our new office in Mystic, CT. I am so pleased to have a fine man like Tom working with us. He has been sailing, cruising, and brokering multihulls for over 20 years and holds the CPYB designation from the Yacht Brokers Association of America. Our buyers and sellers will benefit enormously from Tom's sage advice and ethical service. In this issue of our newsletter we have many exciting things to announce, and bring you an excellent feature article on "Hoisting and Raising a Main Sail ," graciously provided to us by Multihulls World Magazine. For those of you in the Northeast, please come by to see us at our stand at the Strictly Sail Philadelphia Boat Show, January 18th to the 21st. If you cannot attend the Philly show, do not miss us at the Miami Boat Show, February 15th to the 19th. We will have on display a new Dolphin 460 and a new Dean 441. Test sails will be offered on these fine catamarans on the 20th of February. To set up a sail, please contact Carol Skari at the Multihull Company. Happy sailing in 2007! Multihull Company Becomes Exclusive Catana Dealer for the Eastern United States
Well, it is final. This past October, at the Annapolis Boat Show, Catana announced that The Multihull Company would become exclusive agents for Catana catamarans for the entire East Coast of the United States. "We could not be more pleased to be working with Phillip Berman and his team of multihull experts," states Patrick Gilot, North American sales manager for Catana. "Phillip has been selling used Catana's for years, and he knows our product line well, as well as our factory operation. As a former World Champion catamaran racer he appreciates the performance features of our line, as well as the high-tech construction that defines Catana." Alexis de Boucaud, Manager for the Multihull Company Florida office, will be handling Catana sales and service in the southeast, while Tom Kintz, Office Manager for The Multihull Company's Mystic, Ct., office will be handling Catana sales and service in the northeast. In the Caribbean, Philippe Richard will continue his long tradition of managing Catana warranty service at The Catamaran Village in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, home of The Multihull Company's Caribbean brokerage office. The Multihull Company will be showing the new Catana 50 at the Annapolis Boat Show in October of 2007 and at the Miami Boat Show in February of 2008. Multihull Company Becomes Exclusive Dean Catamaran Agent for North AmericaShowing the new Dean 441 Sailing Catamaran at the Miami Boat Show, February 15th to February 19th
Not everyone is looking for a performance oriented dagger-boarded catamaran like a Catana or a Dolphin. Indeed, many buyers these days simply want a solid, well finished, and extremely spacious catamaran at an attractive price. In our view, at $420,000, the Dean 441 represents a great value on the market for this type of buyer. Dean has been building solid, proven catamarans for over 20 years, and the new 441 represents the fruit of over 50 hulls that have been tested on every major ocean in the world. Dean 441 sales are managed at The Multihull Company by Tom Kintz and Alexis de Boucaud. They will be showing the new Dean 441 at the Miami Boat Show this coming February. To learn more about the Dean 441, or the Dean Jag powercat, please visit our website or contact either Alexis or Tom for detailed information. Super Star Downhill Ski Racer Ni Orsi Becomes Dolphin Agent For ItalyThe Dolphin Catamaran line is attracting a wide range of championship owners. So far Dolphin's have been purchased by a former Hobie Cat 16 World Champion, an F-31 Trimaran National Champion, and now former Olympic Ski racer, Ni Orsi. Ni and his wife, Kris, recently retired to Italy, and we were fortunate enough to have them become our Dolphin agents for Italy.
Ni grew up on the water. He owned his first boat when he was five, and by the time he was sixteen had won several National Water Skiing Championships. He retired from water skiing after the 1960 World Championships, where he placed third overall. While water skiing, Ni was also snow skiing with similar results. He won several National Snow Skiing Championships and was on the 1964 & 1968 U.S. Winter Olympic Ski Team with Billy Kid. In 1965 he was ranked third in the World in downhill. After retiring from snow skiing, Ni turned his competitive energy to racing Hobie Cats with Kris as crew. Recently retired from business, Ni and Kris moved to Santa Margherita, Italy. Realizing that sailing was still in his blood Ni had to find a new boat. After three years of research, he concluded that the right boat for his needs was a Dolphin 460. Ni will have his new Dolphin sitting on a mooring in front of his house. He will be taking Europeans on demonstration sails, chartering his boat to qualified sailors, and will be showing her next September at the Cannes Boat Show in the South of France. Ni will be working closely with Alexis de Boucaud on expanding the presence of Dolphin catamarans to European buyers.
Dolphin Rally in the Grenadines, January 13th to 20thEvery six weeks for the past two years a new Dolphin 460 has been launched and sailed to North America. We recently realized that we had a number of Dolphin owners sailing in the southern Caribbean this year and decided to hold a party. Between five and six Dolphin 460's will assemble in St. Vincent for a week of racing seminars, parties, and fun. To learn more about the rally, please contact Carol Skari at The Multihull Company for the schedule of events. FREE OFFSHORE CREWING OPPORTUNITY ON A DOLPHIN 460
