Summer 2006
Greetings and good wishes fellow sailors! Yes, I know, this newsletter is long overdue, but it’s not for a lack of trying. It is simply that the growth of The Multihull Company continues to be astounding. I find myself almost constantly attending surveys and sea trials for buyers and sellers all over the world – Brazil, Trinidad, Tortola, Grenada, Florida, Baltimore, Mystic, CT, these are just a few of the places I have visited in the past few weeks. Alexis de Boucaud is equally busy serving our many buyers and sellers in Florida and France. Lots of exciting developments, as always, have been happening for The Multihull Company. We have just launched our new website, designed and managed by our in-house web guru, Alex Roscoe. Alex has been working on the new site for months. I think it is truly fantastic. Please visit www.multihullcompany.com and let us know what you think. In addition to our new website, we are excited to announce the grand opening of our new brokerage office in Trinidad…more on that in a moment. We have also opened a second new brokerage on the Northern Canadian coast in Nova Scotia at Baddeck Marine. Welcome Philippe and Diane Richard in Trinidad and Tyler Germani in Nova Scotia.
The Annapolis Boat Show is just around the corner on October 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9th. Please do come by and visit us on the Multihull Lagoon to learn about our many brokerage listings, sailing school, charter opportunities, and, of course, the Dolphin Catamaran. A Dolphin 460 Catamaran will be on display. If you haven’t yet been on–board a Dolphin you’re in for a real treat! Looking forward to seeing you at the boat show, I wish you health and happy sailing. The Multihull Company at Catamaran Village Opens in TrinidadDue to the growing international nature of our business and the many clients we have cruising in the Southern Caribbean, we felt a powerful need to establish a brokerage office in Trinidad. We also sought a first-stop warranty and customer care facility to service our many Dolphin Catamaran buyers sailing their new boats up from Brazil. (At present, about one new Dolphin arrives in the Caribbean every two months.) It took some time, but as luck would have it the right person reached out to us. Some four months ago we were contacted by Philippe Richard about forming a Multihull Company brokerage and repair facility in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. As many seasoned multihull sailors know, Philippe has been building and repairing catamarans in Chaguaramas for nearly a decade. For a time, in partnership with Catana, he built the Aikane 56 catamaran. In addition, he conducted extensive refitting services for many of the Caribbean’s largest charter catamarans. He also handled the bulk of Catana warranty service in the Caribbean. The Catana influence is still everywhere evident at THE CATAMARAN VILLAGE–in the storage yard there are more than 10 Catana catamarans under Philippe’s care, as well as a wide range of other brands – Dolphin’s, Lagoon’s, Privilege, etc. Many of the catamarans are there for hurricane season storage, some for refit or repair, and some are for sale. THE MULTIHULL COMPANY AT CATAMARAN VILLAGE offers our sellers, as well as our buyers, the perfect facility to handle the storage, repair, survey, and sea trials for our many catamaran listings in the Southern Caribbean. The best part is that Philippe is truly a master catamaran builder and a gentleman of the old school. He can be trusted to offer good advice, expert repair, and a level of service that is rarely found in the slow-moving Caribbean. To learn more about Philippe Richard, please read the article that just appeared in the July/August 2006 issue of Multihulls Magazine: “Syncopated Rhythm” by Roger Webb. Foreign Buyers GrowTHE MULTIHULL COMPANY WILL DISPLAY AT THE PARIS BOAT SHOW DECEMBER 6-10.
In an effort to better serve our many clients, our Florida broker, Alexis de Boucaud (a French speaking American citizen), has launched a French language home page on our website. He has also established a partner brokerage in the South of France to better serve our European customers. Alexis will be hosting a Multihull Company booth at the Paris Boat Show this December and introducing the Dolphin Catamaran to the European market. The Multihull Company Launches New WebsiteAfter more than four months of development, Alex Roscoe has launched the new Multihull Company website. Alex set out with clear directives: keep it clean, simple, easy to navigate, full of information, make certain it can be used on a wide range of browsers, and do not make it so laden with gimmicks that a person using a dial up connection has to wait interminably to get the information they need. Our philosophy remains the same: we do not believe a catamaran shopper should be asked to register his or her name to get all of the information contained on our website. If you want to visit our website, you may do so with the full confidence that nobody from our company will be calling you to ask if you are ready to buy a cat. We figure that if you are ready to buy a cat, or sell a cat, you will let us know. In the meantime, we provide you with every scrap of information we can on the boats we have for sale. If the information you need is not on our website, just let us know. If we can help, we will. Dolphin Catamarans Continue to ShineOver the past six months we have launched five new Dolphin Catamarans. In February, Steve and Karen Fennel took delivery of their Dolphin 460 and spent the following four months sailing back from Brazil with their family to their new home in Charleston, South Carolina. To learn more about their adventures, visit www.svroam.com. In January, Pete Celone, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, sailed his Dolphin 460 from Brazil to Martinique. He then sailed south to Curacao. As Pete said, “The speed is unbelievable. At one point we hit 19.7 knots, and for a 12 hour period were averaging between 11 - 12 knots.” Peter Brown, from San Francisco, sailed his Dolphin back from Brazil in April and is equally thrilled with his new catamaran. “The quality of the Dolphin 460 is just unbelievable – Philippe Pouvreau and the team at Dolphin are just fantastically dedicated workers.” Russell Eddington picked up Free Spirit in March and sailed through the Grenadines to Martinique and the last we heard, the Panama Canal. More recently, Ron and Victoria Sanders took possession of their Dolphin in July. But rather than sail North during hurricane season, they headed South to Salvador, Brazil, to cruise on their new boat until they sail North in October. This October, Diane and Gary Thompson are sailing their new Dolphin 460 from Brazil to San Francisco. Be sure to come and see Gary and Diane’s new Dolphin at the Oakland Boat Show next April, 2007. To learn more about the exciting Dolphin 460, go to: www.multihullcompany.com Sue Hacking, veteran catamaran cruiser and Multihull Company Customer is featured in Cruising WorldOver five years ago, a wonderful woman named Sue Hacking came to us asking if we could help her find the right multihull to sail around the world with her family. She had some very specific needs and a firm budget to contend with in her quest. After several months of searching, Phillip found Sue and her husband, John a 1995 Kronos 45. Since that time the Hackings have logged thousands of miles and are currently living on their boat in the South Pacific. Their amazing website is at www.hackingfamily.com. Sue recently wrote a wonderful piece for Cruising World on her experiences living aboard Ocelot. To read Sue’s articles go to the Cruising World Homepage.
