"Bananas"

LOA: 56'
TYPE: Custom Cross Trimaran Pilot House Ketch
YEAR: 1983
USD: $99,000
LYING: Port Townsend, WA

She sailed from South Africa many years ago. A shake-out to the Seychelles, then back round across the Atlantic through the Caribbean and Panama and out into the Pacific. She was set on a circumnavigation but wouldn't leave the Pacific until she saw Alaska. Crewed by a husband and wife she proved an intrepid sailing platform. But her voyage was cut short late at night and far from home when she tangled with 100's of tons of steel (call me - I'll tell you about it). Afterward, she landed, still afloat, in Port Townsend, WA which is both a testament to her structure and a good thing for you beca . . . more

"Virgin Fire"

LOA: 56'
TYPE: Gold Coast
YEAR: 1996
USD: $295,000
LYING: Virgin Islands, US

Virgin Fire is a legendary trimaran built at Gold Coast Yachts. The boat is large, simple, powerful, easy to sail, and very fast. I have been lucky enough to sail this boat off and on for many years, and have just been so impressed with it. I remember being in Boston, going out to the start of a big open 60 race, leaving the dock with all the press people and photographers aboard, and getting a puff of wind, and watching the boat jump to 19 knots. The race started, and we gave chase to the fleet, immediately passing all of them. The sailors aboard those open 60's just sort of blankly stared as . . . more

When you are cruising the most beautiful places on earth, why crawl down into a cave?" We've all asked this of our monohull bretheren. Now NEEL Trimarans asks the same of us. Just Makes Sense is 650 square feet of single-level living space with panoramic views. . . cruising at 10 knots often attaining mid-teens and very capable of 300 mile days. This NEEL 50 combines the best aspects of racing trimarans and cruising catamarans. Just Makes Sense has low drag hulls driven by a 75 hp engine or the high aspect rig. Fast Cruising Trimaran

"Damiana"

LOA: 42'
TYPE: Custom Shuttleworth
MODEL: Fast Cruising Trimaran
YEAR: 1983
USD: $210,000
LYING: Mexico

Her designer took what he learned from record setting trans-Atlantic single-handed racing trimarans and developed a fast weatherly cruising trimaran. Her first owner RAVED about her in Cruising World in 1990 after 30,000 miles at sea and weathering 40-50 knot gales in the Bay of Biscay. Her windward ability in a blow astounded him. Her stable acceleration off the wind and her ease of handling were amazing. He came to expect 200 mile days. The design was right on the money (contact me for the review).

Fast forward another two decades. Her current owner RAVES about her. Sh . . . more

This Searunner 40 is a true bluewater boat. She's in excellent condition and pride of ownership is evident throughout. Everything aboard has been set up and maintained with safe, seakindly, bluewater sailing in mind. This is a one-family boat. She was constructed with care from a custom run of marine plywood. In each sheet the outer half of the plys are mahogany hardwood and inner plys are fir. West Systems Epoxy was used to encapsulate all materials and then finished on the exterior with Interlux Perfection 2-part Polyurethane. This is a Sleigh Ride waiting to happen! Take her from her current location in Juneau Alaska down current and downwind to Vancouver or Seattle. This is one of the most beautiful passages in the world and The Lorax will be right at home communing with the trees of the Inside Passage. It is truly amazing to sail at speed through mountaintops. You'll swear you are not at sea level. After the Inside Passage spend some time enjoying the racing scene on Puget Sound and time your next voyage South for the America's Cup in San Francisco and then maybe Southward to the Baja Haha. . .

Buccaneer Trimaran

"Odette"

LOA: 34'
TYPE: Crowther
MODEL: Buccaneer Trimaran
YEAR: 1996
USD: $25,000
LYING: Everett, WA

This Crowther Buccaneer is a very fast coastal cruising trimaran. She's been extended to 34' from the original 33' and has wing decks instead of only open webbing extending to the akas which creates a much more accommodating interior. In Odette you see Lock Crowther's multi-chined design modified by Kurt Hughes to wing deck akas instead of tubular crossbeams and a round hull form constructed using cold molded triple-diagonal cedar/ply construction sheathed in fiberglass. She was launched in 1996 and rigged in 1999. She has a cozy settee with stowable table that converts to a large wing bun . . . more

"Liberty II"

LOA: 32'
TYPE: Custom-Brown Marples
YEAR: 2002
USD: $9,900
LYING: Ferndale, WA

This trimaran is funky by design. She is a nimble, speedy, shallow draft, durable, versatile platform for exploring protected coastal waters, inland lakes, and the rivers and inland waterways of the world. Her builder desired a "River Boat" which he intended to sail across the United States using the Columbia and Missouri rivers with stints on the Great Lakes, the Eerie Canal, and then the ICW. The builder (who had built 4 vessels previously) worked in close collaboration with John Marples to design Liberty. She is powered by a 20 hp Yanmar two cylinder diesel with only 500 hours, has a tabern . . . more

F-27

"Impulse"

LOA: 27'
TYPE: Corsair
MODEL: F-27
YEAR: 1991
USD: $40,000
LYING: Bainbridge Island, WA

Fast, level sailing in a practical and economical package - the F-27 is a flat out fun boat. So much fun that it is in the American Sailboat Hall of Fame. This is a nice example of the F-27 with accommodation for two in the main cabin, one in the fore peak and one (or a cozy two) in the aft cabin. A compact galley is to port of the companionway and a marine head is located in the forepeak cabin. The action is on deck though where you will find the he F-27 to be a fast coastal cruiser and a blast around the buoys.
