Once in a while, a boat comes on the market that is really exceptional. Occam's Razor is that kind of boat. She is a boat of extraordinary sailing capabilty, with 4' plus of bridgedeck clearance, a rotating carbon mast, deep daggerboards, and exceptional beauty. She is not a comfort cat per se, but is delightful below, in her spartan simplicity.
The boat began it's life as an open bridgedeck, 52' offshore racing cat. She was designed by Ron Givens, and built at Cookson's in Aukland New Zealand. After being raced for a few years, a delightful English gentleman bought her, and in the most conscientious way, designed a streamlined deck house. Sir Phillip then proceeded to blast all over the world on the boat. In about 2006, I came into contact with Phillip, and ended up with the boat in my care. I was lucky enough to sail the boat back and forth between Rhode Island and the Caribbean a few times, and spend a winter on her in the USVI. So, I know the boat a little!! One passage, from Bermuda to St John was the fastest of my long sailing career, and one I will never forget. We made the trip in under 3 days, at an AVERAGE speed of 14.7 knots. While not 'round the world record stuff, the boat was constantly in the 20 plus knot range. And, she handled it with power and grace.
At the end of my run with the boat, there was a real need for a refit. The current owner bought the boat from me, and together we planned out all sorts of upgrades. Then, he went out and did them all. New Yanmar's. (the boat powers at 10 knots at below normal cruising rpm), new sails. redesigns on the interior. New steering system. Today, as she sits, the boat wants for very little.
I could go on and on. But, if you are a fan of great high performance big cats, you may already know of this boat. If you wish to know more, call me.
