If you care about how your catamaran sails, or care if she is strong, light, and totally practical, First Light has to be one of the most intelligent under 40 foot cats every designed or built. This explains why they were so popular in Australia and why they cost much more to build than the typical production cat.
This catamaran is designed by the world renowned Tony Grainger. She offers superior lightweight foam core construction with solid vinyl ester resin below the waterline. Since 2004, First Light has wintered on the hard under its cover. She has seen only light use during the Summer seasons. "First Light" is Hull #9 in the very popular LW38 series built by Lightwave Yachts in Australia and boasts a voluminous and comfortable interior with tons of storage. I love her super smart salon design, her excellent galley down that remains open to the salon, her owners berth, her big standing owners shower, etc. If had to buy a 38 foot cat to live on and sail with my wife, this is the one for me. She even sports excellent underwing clearance so she will not only be faster underway, but will not pound or bang like so many others.
First Light's owner has clearly not worried much about spending on her, doing what is required to keep her in top form, as she shows just fantastic. He clearly purchased some recent new sails, a new sail cover, etc. Whatever she has needed, and whenever she has needed it, he has done it, and done it right - sparing no expense. You could get on this boat, load up her fridge, grab a bit of fuel, and head out to just about anywhere. While she is just 38 feet, she could sail safely across any ocean. But she is just totally ideal for the coastal voyager, Bahamas, and Caribbean.
First light is built to a level of quality that is clearly far ahead of her competition. To see her is to love her, so call us for a showing. You will not be disappointed so long as you are looking for that excellent blend of performance and comfort so often missing in cats of this size.
