| Refit History | |
| Since purchased the owners have had installed a 4cu ft fridge, a 4cu ft freezer and a water maker. Both heads and plumbing system including hot water tanks have been upgraded . Replaced large salon windows with hatches for better ventilation. Installed purpose built davits for easier handling of the dinghy. New bimini and front clears plus side screens. Added solar panels and wind generator. Upgraded the generator to a 5Kw. Upgraded house batteries to 900amp. She regularly comes out of the water every 2 years for antifouling, cleaning and polishing and any other maintenance that may be required. Engines regularly serviced, partially rebuilt 2009 and compression tested and injectors re calibrated at that time. Fuel tanks cleaned and fuel polished 2009. Running back stays upgraded 2009. This yacht is kept in excellent working order as she is the full-time home of the owners. This Freebird 50 has benefited from excellent care and regular upgrades by both of her owners. She is a “going concern” and is ready to cruise now. |
| Sailing History | |
| She was built for the 1993 Southhampton Boat Show and purchased at the show by her original owner. She was sailed down to the Canary Islands where for 3 years she was used for dolphin and whale watching. The current owners are the second owners and purchased her in 2000 and spent quite some time bringing her up to her original standards. They sailed her across the Atlantic, up and down the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal to the Pacific. Then they explored the Las Perlas Islands, Ecuador, Galapagos, Marquesas, Tuamotus, Tahiti and the Society Islands, Northern Cooks, Samoa, Tonga and New Zealand. Since NZ they have circumnavigated New Caledonia, sailed east back to the Australia and Gambier Islands of French Polynesia, returned to the Tuamotus, Tahiti, Society Islands, Southern Cooks, Niue and Tonga to NZ. Then to Vanuatu, New Caledonia, and Australia. They have sailed her well over 50,000 nautical miles and she would be quite suitable for a couple, a family or to put into charter. She is a large volume yacht and easy to sail. All controls are back to the cockpit. |
| Owner Comments | |
| Without exception visitors including fellow cruisers all comment on how much like home she is and how spacious she is for her size. Even owners of larger catamarans are amazed how spacious the salon and galley are. Her staterooms are also generously proportioned. She had an amazing amount of storage space not found on any other catamaran we have seen. She is an excellent passage maker. |
