Custom 48 - “La Maja ”

Designed by Jean Francois Andre, a professional naval architect and built by Gerard Bador, a master builder with many years of experience building boats including a 65 catamaran. Gerard also has extensive sailing experience and knowledge gained from over 80,000 miles of cruising.

This boat is well equipped with all the essential equipment. It is designed with high bridgedeck clearance, clean and unobstructed inside hulls, wide flat decks, foredeck with trampoline, large interior and comfortable and secure cockpit space.

The hull construction is strip plank with white cedar and epoxy resin. The interior joinery is foam core for light weight and easy maintenance.

The weight of the boat empty is aprox. 18,000 lbs making her an easily driven and fast sailing cat. Her draft is 3.5 enabling her access to shallow areas ideal for the Keys and the Bahamas.

This boat is designed for short handed sailing. All lines are led to the helm station which has two large Andersen 52 ST winches and nine line snubbers. The mainsail is hoisted and reefed from the cockpit. The job sheet tracks are near the centerline providing tight sheeting angles to enable the boat to sail well upwind. All four corners of the boat are visible from the helm.

The owners have decided to retire from sailing and the boat has been unused for several years. There is cosmetic maintenance needed including a haul out and propeller cleaning. (The zincs have been changed on a regular basis.) The hatch lenses need to be replaced and the hull and decks need to be repainted. The running rigging also needs to be replaced. The standing rigging is in excellent condition.
