Associate Broker - Tim Mahoney

Capt. Tim Mahoney, U.S.C.G. Master, joins The Multihull Company team and possesses over 40 years of sailing, cruising and boatbuilding experience. Tim grew up in Mexico, Cuba and Argentina and speaks fluent Spanish. He returned to the States to attend college and earned degrees in International Relations and World Business. After graduating, Tim decided to take some time off and go cruising. He built a 41’ cutter that he sailed, round trip, from San Francisco to southern Mexico over 18 months.

Upon returning to San Francisco, Tim started a specialty hardwood business with an emphasis on marine lumber. Over the next 34 years of owning and operating Handloggers, Tim worked with boatyards and naval architects on various projects including the San Francisco Maritime Museum, Tom Wylie and The Maltese Falcon as well as hundreds of boat owners throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

After owning the 41’ cutter and a 51’ masthead sloop, Tim began looking for the ultimate live aboard world cruiser. He decided that it needed to be a catamaran and after several years of research and trial sails on various catamarans, Tim chose a 48’ Angelo Lavranos design built in South Africa. Upon its completion in 2010, Tim and his wife, Susan, flew to South Africa and sailed their boat, “Flamingo” from Cape Town across the South Atlantic through the Caribbean. Some 18 months and 9,000 miles later, they landed in Miami where the boat was displayed in the Miami Boat Show.

Tim now lives on the Gulf Coast of Florida. His extensive catamaran experience and expertise in the fundamentals of boatbuilding make him a valuable resource for The Multihull Company.
